Sharing Johan Cruijff ArenA's sustainability journey with the world
At the beginning of February, Sander van Stiphout was invited to share the sustainability journey and the learnings of that journey of the ArenA in the European Union Expert Group Green Sports. Member states and sports federations such as FIFA and UEFA were also represented at this event.
This exciting afternoon gave us new insights into how we can manage our stadium for the sustainability journey we have in mind. It is evident that sport offers, besides a powerful voice, great living labs for societal transitions with the venues as microcities.
Venues can drive and accelerate sustainable development as long as good practices, guidelines, and funding (to start) is available for the industry. As shareholders- and stakeholders, governments can challenge the sports industry to adopt this role.
Creating a living lab where you test and learn in a controllable environment is a great place to learn.
