History

Since it opened in 1996, the Johan Cruijff ArenA has been the beating heart of sport and entertainment in Amsterdam. What began as an innovative stadium has grown into an iconic venue where millions of visitors come together to experience unforgettable moments.

Sustainability

The Johan Cruijff ArenA is one of the most sustainable stadiums in the world. The ArenA aims to become Net Positive, and we are working hard to quantify and achieve this. Our more than 4,200 solar panels and two super-batteries contribute to the storage of green electricity and energy self-sufficiency. In addition, we are actively reducing our environmental impact through measures such as alternative waste management methods, the use of materials and targeted choices regarding catering. By measuring the sustainability performance of events and making this information increasingly transparent, we account for our impact, raise awareness amongst organisers and partners, and make events increasingly sustainable.
