Every year, millions of people experience unforgettable moments at the Johan Cruijff ArenA. From the final whistle that seals a championship to the last note of a legendary concert – we create moments that last a lifetime. But behind every magical evening lies a less pleasant reality: energy consumption, CO₂ emissions, waste. The impact of a spectacular experience.

We know things can be done differently. We know they must be done differently.

our approach

4 pillars, one goal

We have identified key focus areas. Within each focus area, we set specific goals and work as a team every day to achieve them. We are happy to share our successes, but also our challenges. Because it is only by being open that we can learn and, together with our partners and colleagues in the sector, set a new standard for sports and events venues worldwide.

Never finished

A Net Positive ambition is never ‘complete’ – we know that. By setting the bar high, we challenge ourselves to keep learning, innovating and improving. We share what’s going well and are honest about the challenges. Is Net Positive achievable? It’s not easy, but we must all work together to make it happen, because this is what the world needs right now: people and businesses who are doing everything they can to operate in a clean, socially responsible and fair way.

With and for one another

Our ambition is not just about taking less, but rather about giving more. And you can feel that everywhere. We don’t do this alone, but together. The ArenA provides a platform on which we, together with various partners, are constantly on the lookout for good initiatives through which we can be an inspiration to others. A good example is the opening of the second battery, which enables us to run events entirely on sustainable electricity.

We work with many stakeholders on this. For instance, the ArenA is a proud part of the dynamic Amsterdam Zuidoost neighbourhood, and together with local organisations we create opportunities for young talent, invest in employment and open our doors to the local community. We take our visitors’ views seriously. We want to be accessible to everyone and ensure that every visitor feels more than welcome, safe and valued. The same goes for our staff, of course, because together we make the ArenA a pleasant place to work. That makes sense.

A new standard

At the Johan Cruijff ArenA, we don’t just sit back and wait. We take the initiative and inspire others to get involved. We’re keen to share our successes and lessons learnt, because that’s how we can work together to set a new standard for sports and event venues worldwide. Find out how we do this across our four focus areas.

We want to give back more to the world than we take – that is what ‘Net Positive’ means to the Johan Cruijff ArenA.
