The Johan Cruijff ArenA is more than just a stadium; it is an icon of Amsterdam. We welcome over 2 million people every year. That makes us a major attraction and employer. We take this social responsibility seriously. That is why we are there for our visitors, as a great employer, and for the Zuidoost neighbourhood. Even when there are conflicting interests involved.

Connecting to Zuidoost

We want local residents to see the ArenA as Zuidoost’s community centre – a place where talent is nurtured, and where we work together to build a strong, vibrant community that prioritises social growth and economic opportunities.

Here’s what that looks like:

  • Creating jobs: by 2030, 10 per cent of ArenA staff will be from the local area.
  • Young talent in the spotlight: every year, at least 300 people from Zuidoost will discover their talents at the ArenA through, for example, work placements and work-based learning programmes.
  • An open door for the neighbourhood: our dream is that every resident of Zuidoost will have visited the ArenA at least once. That’s why we invite 5,000 local residents to various events every year. Come along and make yourself at home.

In the spotlight

We are already making good progress in the areas of employment and community engagement. Collaboration and innovation are central to this.

This is how we tackle the challenges

We have ambitious social goals, but we know that good intentions alone are not enough. That is why we tackle challenges strategically and remain critical about what works and what does not.
