Local green energy from bio digester in Amsterdam Zuidoost
From the end of 2021, organic waste from companies in Amsterdam Zuidoost, such as the Johan Cruijff ArenA, will be picked up and turned into local green energy and organic fertilisers. For this initiative, a 'bio digester' will be used from The Waste Transformers, which will be connected to the ArenA.
With the Waste Transformer, the Johan Cruijff ArenA will be the first stadium in the world that will operate on self generated energy from local food waste and where the turf (grass field) will be fertilised with fertilisers won by the waste. To make this project possible, the Municipality of Amsterdam, Royal Haskoning DHV, The Waste Transformers and the Johan Cruijff ArenA have made agreements.
