In the heart of society

The Johan Cruijff ArenA is socially involved and committed to people who, for whatever reason, are more vulnerable than others. Whether it involves work or sports, recreation or accessibility, we believe that everyone should be able to participate.

Our social responsibility is based on that conviction. In addition, the Municipality of Amsterdam is an important partner and shareholder. Together we are committed to improving the quality of life in the city.

We also seek cooperation with other public and private parties. We are joining forces on concrete activities to positively influence the quality of life and inclusiveness in Amsterdam city and beyond. As Johan Cruijff once said: “You can't do anything on your own, you have to do it together.”

Our social approach

We try to strengthen existing initiatives and develop social activities on and off the beaten track. Our unique stadium environment regularly provides the backdrop for an attractive event, for example for the Disabled Sports Fund, Johan Cruijff Foundation/Cruyff Foundation 14K run, ArenA Moves (research into multiple sclerosis), KWF Fight against Cancer, Make-A-Wish and The Foodbank. In other projects, we use our expertise in sustainability or our position as an employer in the region.

Work and training

We find it important that everyone can participate in education and in the labor market. As a multifunctional, leading stadium, the Johan Cruijff ArenA is the ideal place for students to gain practical experience. And as an employer, we want to help bridge the gap between supply and demand on the local labor market. We are working on this with various private and public organizations.

Smart city and accessibility

The Johan Cruijff ArenA and the surrounding area are the ideal place to test and develop innovations in such fields as safety, accessibility and sustainability. Amsterdam Zuidoost faces the same challenges as a whole city which makes it a perfect living lab to investigate which innovations can contribute to such smart cities as Amsterdam. The public-private partnership between the Municipality of Amsterdam and the ArenA goes back a long way and has recently led to the Smart Society Deal, in which other internationally leading companies also participate. Together we want to advance innovations in sustainability, connectivity, (cyber) security and accessibility, for example by upscaling so that we can boost the economic and social progress of smart cities. Programs in which the Johan Cruijff ArenA is closely involved include the Operational Mobility Center and Mobility Portal, which ensure a better visitor journey and accessibility during events.

Children and sports

Children are the future. It is important for their development that they can fully participate in sports, for example. The Johan Cruijff ArenA actively contributes to initiatives that focus on the mental, physical and social development of children.
