25 jaar ArenA

Delfts Blauwe ArenA

The roots of the Delfts blue houses go back to the 17th century. For the 25th anniversary of the Johan Cruijff ArenA, Royal Delft designed a minitiature stadium, using old traditions and the newest 3D techniques.

Het proces

  • Delfts blue pottery is made of clay which exists of ten materials, included china clay.
  • The minitiature stadium was designed with a 3D software program and printed after with a 3D printer.
  • The print gets turned into a plaster mold, in which the clay gets poured.
  • Once the clay is dry, the minitiature gets taken out of the mold, details get fixed, and then it gets baked in an oven at a temperature of 1160 degrees celcius. Once it's done, it gets called a biscuit.
  • Once it's cooled down, it gets decorated by painters with a black paint made from cobalt oxide and a coat of white enaml gets added.
  • The painted biscuit goes back into the oven for 24 hours at a temperature of 1200 degrees celcius. The black paint turns into Delfts blue and the white coat becomes transparent.
  • After a quality check, the stadium gets the Premium quality mark and the special anniversary logo of the ArenA.
