Amsterdam confirms participation as a UEFA EURO 2020 Host City in 2021
Amsterdam will continue to be associated with UEFA EURO 2020 in 2021. In Amsterdam, three group matches and an eighth final were scheduled if the European Championship was held this summer.

The municipality of Amsterdam previously decided that they also want to make the four football matches in the Johan Cruijff ArenA possible in 2021. The Johan Cruijff ArenA has also confirmed that the dates are in the agenda. “For the Johan Cruijff ArenA it is fantastic to be able to receive EURO 2020 in our stadium in 2021 as well. A great prospect that is very welcome, especially in these uncertain times. The ArenA will be 25 years old in 2021. In this way, the European Championship in 2021 will become a prominent part of our jubilee program,” says managing director Johan Cruijff ArenA Henk Markerink.

“I am happy with the confirmation of the status of ‘Host City EURO2020′ for Amsterdam. There was never any doubt about it, but something like that had to be arranged properly again. With all parties: the national government, the municipality of Amsterdam, Schiphol and the Johan Cruijff ArenA. Now that has happened, I am very grateful to everyone involved,” said Gijs de Jong, tournament director of EURO 2020.

Because of the 60th anniversary of UEFA, the organization had chosen a special European Championship: an event that is held in various cities of play across Europe. That plan will remain in place, of course, taking into account all necessary measures in connection with the Corona crisis. The opening game will be played on June 11 next year and the final on July 11, 2021. More information will be announced by UEFA later.
