Measures to reduce taxi congestion during events in the ArenA area
Introductory period
To improve traffic flow, a digital geofence (also known as a black‑out zone) will be introduced. Within this zone, taxis are unable to accept trips or match drivers with passengers. This prevents taxis from entering the area without a confirmed ride. As a result, there will be less traffic congestion, a smoother exit for visitors, and safer and more efficient use of the available space.
The introductory period for this system in the Zuidoost event area runs from 2 March to 16 March 2026.
New taxi layout
The City is working towards fixed locations for different types of transport in the Zuidoost event area. This means that:
- TTO taxis (licensed traditional taxis) will retain their current pick‑up location on the north side of the event area, at the taxi lane near the ‘white bridge’.
- Pre‑booked taxis (such as Uber and Bolt) will use the designated drop‑off and pick‑up point at De Entree. Only taxis that can demonstrate they have accepted a trip will be allowed access.
- Pre‑reserved taxis will wait at Lemelerbergweg – Keienbergdreef.
Pick up and drop-off for pre-booked taxis
For visitors, the pick‑up and drop‑off location for pre‑booked taxis will change to De Entree. This location will be clearly signposted. Please pay close attention to the signage around the Johan Cruijff ArenA during Ajax vs Sparta Rotterdam on Saturday 14 March.
