Henk Markerink

CEO Amsterdam ArenA

Henk is CEO of Johan Cruijff ArenA, responsible for its general management since the stadium opened in 1996. Henk was project manager for the design and construction of Johan Cruijff ArenA from 1991 to 1995. When Johan Cruijff ArenA opened and people could see the revolutionary business model in action, Henk was often asked to advise on the development and management of many other venues. This made him decide to establish a separate consultancy and management subsidiary in 2000 and ‘ArenA do Brasil Ltda.’ in 2005. Henk has been involved in many venue-related projects worldwide.

Henk graduated from the Eindhoven Technical University (1980) and holds a Master’s degree in Architecture and Structural Engineering. After graduation, he worked for several years as consultant and project manager with Arcadis Building Consultancy and Twijnstra Gudde Management Consultants.

Inaddition to his activities for Johan Cruijff ArenA, Henk is member of the Economic Board of the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area, member of the Advisory Board Disabled Sports Fund and member managerial trio of “Beter Benutten II” (Optimising Use part II, together with the Minister of Infrastructure & environment and the commissioner of the province North-Holland).

Henk is well connected in the venue management world and his international venue management experience is highly sought after.
